WATCH: Texas A&M tennis player loses match, appears to spit on his hand before handshake with opponent

Here’s your bizarre SEC story of the day, and it’s kind of a nasty one.

In a tennis match over the weekend between Texas A&M and Ohio State, Buckeyes freshman J.J. Wolf defeated Aggies freshman Patrick Kypson 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

On match point, Wolf clinches the win after a brief rally. As he celebrates and approaches the net for the standard post-match handshake, video appears to show Kyspon spitting on his hand before reaching out to Wolf. Wolf sees it and (smoothly) moves his hand out of the way.

Here’s how it looked:

And in gif form:

If indeed he spit on his hand, Kypson made it extremely obvious, waiting until Wolf was essentially looking right at him. Why he would do it in that way is unclear for many reasons.

Deadspin reports that the weekend matchup between the two freshmen was a rematch of a 4-set Kypson victory in the 2017 USTA National Championship Finals, so maybe there’s a pre-existing rivalry there. Or maybe not. Deadspin also reached out to Texas A&M but has yet to receive comment on the video or any potential discipline.

Credit to Wolf for not escalating things after Kypson pulled the childish move. Not a good look at all for Kypson and his team in College Station.
