SEC baseball season is almost here and with it come some incredible traditions.

One of the best is the students at Ole Miss who perch themselves on the knoll beyond right field at Swayze Field. They’re well known for their beer showers after the Rebels hit a home run.

Tuesday offered them the opportunity to claim their spot three days early for the lid-lifter against Winthrop in Oxford Friday afternoon.

First, Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco came out to those patiently waiting Tuesday morning to shake hands and give out a few doughnuts.

Then, it was off to the races at 2:30 p.m. CT. It looks more like the running of the bulls, and there is definitely a chance of getting trampled, but it’s all worth it to some so they can smell the green grass on opening day.

More importantly, they’ll likely have some choice words for the Winthrop right fielder as well.

The Rebels made it to the College World Series in 2014, but they’re coming off a 32-25 season. Even when losing, the Swayze advantage is evident. The Rebels went 24-8 at home last season while just 6-12 on the road.
