WATCH: Mississippi State advances in NIT thanks to incredible buzzer beater

Drama in March isn’t only reserved for the NCAA Tournament. Mississippi State’s comeback win over Baylor in the NIT is the latest example.

The Bulldogs advanced past Baylor on a buzzer beater 3-pointer by Quinndary Weatherspoon, giving them a 78-77 win.

Here’s another angle:

The ball rattled around for a minute before falling through, maximizing the pain for Baylor. But what a comeback by Mississippi State!

The Bulldogs trailed by nine points with under five minutes to go, but finished the game on a 16-6 run run. Weatherspoon’s game winner was one of two 3-pointers he made in the game’s final minutes, the first one brought State within one point with 2:09 to play.

A Tyson Carter 3-pointer with under a minute to play tied the score at 75, and then Baylor’s Manu Lecomte gave the Bears a two point advantage. But then, of course, Weatherspoon won it at the buzzer with a little help from the rim.

Carter led the way, pouring in a team-high 19 points. Xavian Stapleton and Aric Holman also scored in double figures, scoring 15 points and 13 points, respectively. Holman also pulled down a game-high 8 rebounds.

Mississippi State’s season marches on after upsetting the No. 1 Bears. It will now face either Louisville or Middle Tennessee State on the road in the third round of the NIT. If the Bulldogs win again, they will head to the big apple to play the NIT final four at Madison Square Garden.
