Mike Gundy praise the Oklahoma State defense for saving the Cowboys in a 13-10 overtime win against Texas.
The Cowboys struggled offensively all day against the Longhorns, but got out of Austin with a win thanks to some big defensive plays and a huge interception to seal the game. If not for some controversial calls, Oklahoma State may have gone the whole game without allowing a touchdown.
Gundy made sure his defense got the credit after the game, especially since his offense usually hogs the spotlight.

Here are the full quotes from Gundy, courtesy of KOTV’s Scott Pfeil:
“Forever, around here, it’s been, ‘The offense saved us.’ For six, eight years. You know, ‘Defense can’t stop anybody. Offense saved them. Offense saved them. We’ve got to score more.’ The text messages I get all the time from all my buddies that I grew up with that don’t know anything is, ‘You better score more than them. You better keep scoring.’ Really? I mean, I know that.
And so, the defense played their ass off, period. And won the dang game. …
But I can’t give enough credit to our defense, and I don’t mind saying it. It’s the best effort I’ve seen or I can remember in a long, long time.”
The Cowboys held Texas to just 283 yards of total offense and 42 rushing yards. The Longhorns were 3-of-17 on third downs.
