It’s not over for Clemson.
Despite a shocking 27-24 loss at Syracuse on Friday night, the Tigers’ chances of returning to the College Football Playoff for a third straight season are still relatively strong.
Like we saw in 2016 — when Clemson lost to Pittsburgh at home — a midseason setback doesn’t necessarily mean all is lost when it comes to competing for a national championship. Coach Dabo Swinney was able to rally his team to three consecutive wins to earn another CFP shot, in which the Tigers then took full advantage and beat Ohio State and then Alabama for the title.
You could even argue that the odds might be even better this time around, with more games remaining and more time to prove to the playoff committee that the Week 7 blunder in the Carrier Dome was simply an aberation.
