WATCH: Clemson’s Dexter Lawrence gets the beignets he’s been asking for, with a twist

Clemson defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence offered one of the quotes of the year in college football on Dec. 3 when he was asked whether he was excited for the team’s likely College Football Playoff semifinal matchup in New Orleans.

“Them donuts. What are they called? (Beignets.) Yeah, beignets. I’m going to get me some of them,” Lawrence said.

The Clemson team isn’t in New Orleans yet, but it appears Lawrence has already gotten his beignets. The Clemson football Twitter account released a video Monday morning of the team’s athletic performance chefs cooking some beignets for the Tigers. These weren’t just you average beignets, however. In an effort to make them beneficial to players, these beignets contained a “protein-fortified” filling.

While it’s safe to question whether it’s possible to actually make a deep-fried pastry nutritional, Lawrence did get to try the beignets, and he signaled his approval. Check out the video below.
