It worked to much success against Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl a decade ago, but for Boise State, the Statue of Liberty play blew up in its face.
Up 24-0 against Oregon in the Las Vegas Bowl, the Broncos tried to build the lead by running the play that won them that epic bowl game against the Sooners. It failed badly, with Oregon recovering the fumble and returning it for a touchdown.
Boise State tried a Statue of Liberty play to go up 31-0.

The Ducks would take that momentum and intercept a pass and return it for another touchdown on the very next drive.
