WATCH: Baylor WR Gavin Holmes takes punch from West Virginia player while being tackled

Baylor-Player-Punch-West Virginia

Baylor nearly overcame a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit in a 38-36 loss to West Virginia at McLane Stadium on Saturday. The frantic finish, however, wasn’t the only drama in Waco.

Baylor wide receiver Gavin Holmes took a full-on punch to the helmet from West Virginia defensive back Corey Winfield while being tackled on a play in the loss to the Mountaineers.

Surprisingly, Winfield was not ejected after the play.

It wasn’t a good look for Winfield. At least not when Holmes was already about to have his forward progress stopped by another West Virginia defender.

Winfield, however, took to Twitter after the game to argue that it wasn’t intentional.

The loss on Saturday was Baylor’s third against a ranked opponent this season. The team will look to record its first win of the season at home on Oct. 28 against the 3-4 Texas Longhorns.
