USC names QB Sam Darnold, LB Uchenna Nwosu as team MVP’s

The USC Trojans held their award banquet on Wednesday night and the team named redshirt sophomore QB Sam Darnold and senior LB Uchenna Nwosu  the team’s Most Valuable Players.

Darnold threw for 3,787 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2017, while leading the Trojans to an 11-2 record and the Pac-12 title. Nwosu made 71 tackles and had 13 deflections this season.

USC junior snapper Jake Olson made his mark on college football by snapping in 2 games this season despite being blind. He was named the team’s Most Inspirational Player.

Linemen of the Year: OG Chris Brown (offense), DL Rasheem Green (defense)

Perimeter Players of the Year: RB Ronald Jones II (offense), LB Cameron Smith (defense)

Special Teams Player of the Year: S Matt Lopes, WR Michael Pittman Jr.

Service Team Players of the Year: C Richie Wenzel (offense), DL Jacob Lichtenstein and DL Jay Tufele (defense)

Player of the Game Vs. UCLA: S Chris Hawkins

Howard Jones/Football Alumni Club Academic Award (overall academic achievement): CB Yoofi Quansah

Bob Chandler Award (underclassman with outstanding athletic ability, academic achievement and character): WR Deontay Burnett

John McKay Award (player with the most competitive spirit): DT Josh Fatu

Joe Collins Walk-on Award: P Reid Budrovich, PK Chase McGrath

Chris Carlisle Courage Award: OT Toa Lobendahn, WR Steven Mitchell Jr.
