UCLA reportedly adds former Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads to Chip Kelly’s staff

New UCLA head coach Chip Kelly continues to put together an impressive staff for his first season with the Bruins, the latest addition being one with head coaching experience.

Rhoads went 32-55 from 2009-15 at Iowa State, taking the Cyclones to three bowl games in that span. He spent the last two seasons as an assistant at Arkansas, serving as defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator in 2017, and he was named interim coach following Bret Bielema’s firing on Nov. 24.

The 50-year-old Rhoads last coached out west in 1990, as a grad assistant at Utah State.

Kelly had previously hired Jerry Azzinaro as defensive coordinator and Don Pellum as linebackers coach. Both worked with him during his tenure at Oregon from 2009-12.
