Texas Tech Track & Field rose to No. 1 in the nation on Monday in the USTFCCCA rankings — the highest mark in program history.
It is the first time in more than a decade that any Texas Tech team has been ranked No. 1 in the nation. The Red Raiders women’s basketball team most recently achieved a No. 1 ranking in January 2004.

Track & Field isn’t the only team in Lubbock that currently sits in a national spotlight. Texas Tech men’s basketball came in at No. 7 in the latest AP Top 25 poll on Monday, while baseball is set to open the 2018 campaign as the No. 3 team in the country. Women’s Tennis also sits at No. 8 in the ITA rankings.
Needless to say, there’s plenty to celebrate on the playing field at Texas Tech. But as it stands, Track & Field is king, and the team can only hope that the other three programs follow suit in rising to the top of the food chain in NCAA athletics.
