Tom Izzo on returning to Michigan State: ‘I don’t plan on going anywhere’

It’s been quite the year for Michigan State’s basketball program.

The Spartans had huge expectations coming into the season and on Sunday, the team bowed out of the NCAA Tournament in a second-round defeat to Syracuse. Michigan State didn’t live up to the preseason expectations, but what took place off the court wasn’t a breeze, either.

Spartans coach Tom Izzo was under heat after a report came out in January of this year that detailed a previously unreported 2010 sexual assault allegation against Michigan State basketball players.

Izzo essentially said then that he won’t answer specific questions, but that the time has been challenging for him and his players. At that point, he was confident about keeping his position.

Now that the team’s season is over, Izzo was asked again about his future. His stance seems to not have changed.

Izzo plans on staying at Michigan State and coaching again next season. If up to him, he’ll be back for the 2018-19 season.
