Three Pac-12 coaches named to Dodd Trophy Midseason Watch List

The race for Pac-12 supremacy is heating up, and three of the conference’s leading coaches have popped up on the national radar.

Washington’s Chris Petersen, Washington State’s Mike Leach and USC’s Clay Helton have each been named to the Dodd Trophy Watch List, released on Thursday. The trio are three of 20 coaches named to the list.

Petersen won the Dodd Trophy in 2010, when he led the Boise State Broncos to a 12-1 record and win in the Maaco Car Care Bowl. He was also named to the Bryant Award watch list earlier this week.

Leach, who once led Texas Tech to prominence before his firing in late December 2009, has never won the award. Helton is in his 2nd full season as head coach at USC, where he’s also twice served as interim head coach.

Each of the 3 teams are currently in the top 25 and each have just 1 loss, with No. 11 USC 1 place ahead of No. 12 Washington and 4 ahead of No. 15 Washington State.
