No. 7-ranked Texas Tech maintained its first-place spot in the Big 12 standings with an 88-78 win over No. 23 Oklahoma on Tuesday.
The Red Raiders (22-4, 10-3 Big 12) were fueled by a 26-point performance from guard Keenan Evans, who upstaged Oklahoma’s star point guard Trae Young.
Texas Tech’s defense kept Young scoreless from beyond the arc, marking the first time all season the freshman didn’t hit at least one 3-point attempt. Young scored 19 in the loss, but he was 0-of-9 from 3-point range and made most of his points from the foul line.
It was a superb performance from Evans and the Red Raiders, who still control their destiny in the Big 12 title race. While Oklahoma has now lost seven of its last nine outings, Texas Tech should still get credit from the committee for avenging a loss to a team that is currently projected as a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Texas Tech fell 75-65 to Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., earlier in the year. But the Red Raiders remain perfect at home with the win on Tuesday and are now on a 7-game win streak since falling in back-to-back games to Texas and Iowa State.
The Red Raiders trailed heading into the locker room against the Sooners, but the Red Raiders poured on 52 points in the second half to run away with the marquee win.
Up next, Texas Tech heads to Baylor on Saturday. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
