Texas Tech unveils new Sports Performance Center

The Texas Tech Red Raiders have a stylish new practice facility in Lubbock.

Texas Tech held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for their $48 million Sports Performance Center on Friday. The building features a practice football field and other add-ons that will benefit athletes for all 17 varsity sports.

Using the formal names, there’s the Petersen Family Indoor Football Practice Facility, the Becky and Kelly Joy Nutrition Center and the PlainsCapital Bank Sports Medicine Center. There’s also a 1,500 seat indoor track and field facility.

“This is truly a remarkable facility,” said Texas Tech athletic Kirby Hocutt in a press release. “We could have never dreamed to build a facility like this without the vision and generosity of our most loyal donors. The Sports Performance Center will impact each of our student-athletes as it is one of the best training and competition venues in intercollegiate athletics today.”

Texas Tech football coach Kliff Kingsbury also commented on the center in the release.

“The Sports Performance Center is among the top indoor practice facilities in the country,” he said. “The Petersen Family Indoor Football Facility has already had a tremendous impact on our program this season.”

The facility is fully funded by Texas Tech donors as part of the university’s “Campaign for Fearless Champions.”
