Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin shares touching words about Joe Tiller’s impact

Kevin Sumlin had fantastic words to share about the late Joe Tiller.

On Tuesday, the Texas A&M coach revealed that he will attend the memorial service for the former Purdue coach on Wednesday. He also told reporters that besides his father, no other man had a larger influence on his life than Tiller.

Tiller passed away on Sept. 30. He coached Purdue from 1997 to 2008, and he went 87-62 with the Boilermakers. He led Purdue to a Rose Bowl appearance during the 2000 season. He also guided the Boilermakers to eight consecutive bowl appearances from 1997 to 2004. In addition to his time at Purdue, Tiller went 39-30-1 as Wyoming’s coach from 1991 to 1996.

Tiller also spent time as an assistant coach with Montana State, Washington State and the Calgary Stampeders.

Sumlin played for Purdue in the mid-1980s, and he worked with Tiller at Washington State, Wyoming at Purdue. He and Tiller worked together for nearly a decade.
