KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Tennessee student died in the midst of an amateur boxing event on Friday night, according to a WBIR.com report.
Tanner Wray, a 20-year-old junior, collapsed to the mat as he was walking to his corner in the second round of his fight.
Wray, who according to his Facebook page was an aerospace engineering and science student from Lawrenceburg, Tenn., later died at UT Medical Center.
The rest of the event was cancelled early, per TheCount.com.
The Knoxville Police Department is investigating the death, which WBIR reports occurred “on the second night of the annual Boxing Weekend tournament.”
