Tennessee had been trending in the right direction the past few weeks for Alontae Taylor. The good news finally came for Vol fans Wednesday when he tweeted out his commitment.

Taylor took an official visit to Knoxville this past weekend. It became clear he was leaning towards a commitment to the Vols when he decided to come back to campus this upcoming weekend.

It was by no means a slam dunk he would commit to the Vols. Georgia pursued him hard the past few months. Coach Jeremy Pruitt showed his recruiting acumen by bringing Taylor into the fold.

Taylor isn’t a total unknown to Tennessee fans. He had been committed for over a year before he decided to open his recruitment up after former coach Butch Jones was fired.

Taylor is a dynamic athlete who can play either side of the ball. He will likely play wide receiver for Tennessee, but cornerback is a possibility.

The Manchester, Tenn., native rates as a 4-star prospect and the No. 23 wide receiver in the Class of 2018, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

This is Pruitt’s first commitment with the Vols. More will likely follow this weekend, but it starts some momentum for the class. Taylor is the only wide receiver commit at this time.

The Vols now hold 12 commitments this cycle with the early signing period beginning in a week.
