It seems that not everyone is a fan of Kirk Herbstreit.
Tennessee defensive back Rashaan Gaulden called out Herbstreit after the ESPN commentator sent a tweet praising Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield for his competitive nature.
The backstory here is that Gaulden was heavily criticized by many, including Herbstreit, when he flipped off the Alabama crowd during Tennessee’s game against the Crimson Tide. Gaulden l ater apologized for those actions. Herbstreit later said that Gaulden should’ve been kicked off the team for those actions.
Mayfield also has been no stranger of his own to controversy. Mayfield was arrested in the offseeason on counts of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and fleeing. Mayfield also planted a flag in the middle of Ohio State’s field and later was benched for the start of the West Virginia game for making vulgar gestures against Kansas.
The Oklahoma quarterback won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night.
Mayfield will get to face his first SEC defense on the season, when the Sooners take on the Georgia Bulldogs in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. And Herbstreit will be calling that game.
