While Tennessee did finally hire a head football coach after a circus of a search, that does not mean that the transition to the Jeremy Pruitt era is going completely smoothly in Knoxville.
After it was reported that LSU general manager Austin Thomas would be accepting a position on Pruitt’s staff, that deal has evidently fallen through, according to Tennessee radio host Doug Mathews:
“Austin Thomas will not be a part of the Tennessee Football program and staff…”

A Tennessee graduate, Thomas was seen as a big addition, particularly for his recruiting prowess. In his role as GM for LSU, Thomas was responsible for helping to bring in several big-time talents, including Leonard Fournette.
It is not clear at this time what exactly caused Thomas’ deal with the Volunteers to fall through, but it does appear that he will not be making the transition to Knoxville anytime soon.
