Tennessee loses commitment from Florida CB Brandon Cross

Tennessee hosted cornerback Brandon Cross on an official visit this past weekend.

Cross must not have clicked with the new coaching staff or the staff wants to head in a different direction. He announced he is de-committed from Tennessee on Monday.

Cross committed to Tennessee in June and never really looked around after that. He took one other official visit which was to Indiana on Dec. 1.

Cross rates as the No. 76 cornerback in the Class of 2018 and the No. 124 prospect in Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Tennessee no longer has a commitment in the secondary. This was at one time the Vols’ strongest committed position.

Coach Jeremy Pruitt’s background is in defensive back play. He knows what he is looking for in the position. He has targetted prospects who will better fit his scheme.

Pruitt doesn’t have much time, though. The early signing period begins on Dec. 20 and the dead period begins Dec. 18. He’s trying to make up a lot of ground in a short amount of time.

Tennessee loses cornerbacks Shaq Wiggins, Emmanuel Mosely and Justin Martin heading into next season. Pruitt will have to find two or three prospects at cornerback soon.
