The Thompson’s Station, Tenn., native committed to Tennessee on Nov. 28. He holds SEC offers from Vanderbilt and Ole Miss.
Sheffield rates as a 4-star prospect and ranks of the No. 39 wide receiver in his class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Tennessee holds commitments in the Class of 2019 from wide receiver Cameron Wyn and Te’Cory Couch.
The Vols lost a commitment last week from running back Lyn-J Dixon in the Class of 2018. Commits Jatavious Harris and Brendon Harris have also opened their commitments and will likely end up at other schools.
Tennessee has stumbled to a 3-4 record this season. There have been rumors about coach Butch Jones’ job security which might have led to a few of the prospects backing off their commitments.
Though, Sheffield did thank Jones in his tweet for his involvement in Sheffield’s recruitment.
