If you’re a member of the Tennessee athletic department, at this point, just don’t tweet.

Any fan engagement that you think might come out of the most harmless of tweets, will instead come back and bite you.

Case and point: On Sunday night, Tennessee athletic director John Currie tweeted to encourage fans to come to a championship tennis match.

Solid number of retweets and likes, and oh look, hundreds of replies. Everyone must be super excited about the match, asking for some more details and such. Well, not exactly.

Nearly all of them focused on Butch Jones, and fans’ desires for him to be fired. Reddit’s college football Twitter account rounded up some of the best.

Here’s perhaps the best highlight:

It appears as though Currie has learned his lesson — he hasn’t tweeted since.
