KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano opened the week atop the depth chart, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.
Junior quarterback Quinten Dormady started the first five games for the Vols, but he has committed 8 turnovers in the past three games for the Vols.
Tennessee (3-2, 0-2 SEC) plays host to South Carolina (4-2, 2-2) at noon on Saturday in a game that will be televised by ESPN.
Coach Butch Jones and Vols offensive coordinator Larry Scott both said the quarterback competition was open.
Scott, in fact, praised Guarantano’s growth and maturity on Monday night.
There were unsubstantiated reports Tuesday that Dormady left the team, but neither university officials nor the Dormady family has commented.
