TCU needs to blowout Kansas to silence critics, shake history

Seemingly every media outlet this week — DieHards included — has written about how TCU can never seem to shake Kansas.

The Horned Frogs could be one of the best teams in the country, as they were in 2014 and 2015, and it wouldn’t matter. The lowly Jayhawks always seem to give TCU all it can handle.

Well, the No. 4 Horned Frogs are one of the best teams in the country yet again, and one-win Kansas is coming to Fort Worth on Saturday. This year, the game will be in a primetime slot, which means additional eyes watching TCU and the Jayhawks.

That’s why the Frogs don’t just need to beat Kansas on Saturday. They need to blow the Jayhawks out of the water, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Carlos Mendez.

“This is probably an opportune time for unbeaten TCU, fourth-ranked and at the head of the pack in the Big 12’s push for the final four, to break that habit,” Mendez wrote. “They must win and win like a top-four team.”

TCU head coach Gary Patterson isn’t a fan of blowouts for the sake of impressing voters, though.

“I’ve never been a run-up-the-score guy,” Patterson said. “If the committee has to look at that, then we shouldn’t have a committee.”

Maybe not. But Horned Frogs fans would feel quite a bit better if they didn’t have to sweat out another Kansas game.
