TCU vs. Kansas State lightning delay: Updates on new start time, weather

The matchup between TCU and Kansas State on Saturday has been delayed again due to lightning in the fourth quarter.

Officials called for play to stop with 14:44 remaining in the game. TCU currently leads 20-6. The game is being televised on Fox Sports 1.

NCAA rules require play to be suspended for at least 30 minutes when there is lightning within 8 miles of the stadium. Each time lightning strikes in that area again, the 30-minute clock restarts.

Here are all the updates from the weather delay.

Play to resume at 5:40 p.m. CT

5:35 p.m. CT – Play is expected to resume at 5:40 p.m. CT, pending more lightning in the area. When the game starts back up, it will be televised on Fox Sports 2. Go here to find the channel in your area.

Lightning stops play during the fourth quarter of TCU-Kansas State

4:48 p.m. CT – Lightning struck near the stadium again the fourth quarter, requiring officials to stop play for at least 30 minutes. Officials have not yet announced when play will resume.

TCU-Kansas State kickoff time set for 2 p.m. CT

1:20 p.m. CT – Kickoff has been scheduled for 2 p.m. CT, as long as there is no more lightning in the area before then. There is still rain in the area.

Storms expected to clear after 2:15 p.m. CT

12:20 p.m. CT – According to forecast projections from The Weather Channel, the storm is expected to leave Manhattan starting around 2:15 p.m. CT. It’s possible the game could kick off earlier than that if the lightning stays clear of that 8-mile radius around the stadium.

More lightning delays kickoff until after 12:30 p.m. CT

12:05 p.m. CT – Kickoff had been pushed back until at least 12:30 p.m. CT, and then more lightning struck near the stadium once again after noon. That will likely move kickoff back even more.

TCU-Kansas State kickoff pushed back again

11:42 a.m. CT – Lightning strikes again, four minutes before the revised kickoff time of 11:45 a.m. CT. A new kickoff time has not been set, but it will likely be pushed back to 12:15 p.m. CT if there is no more lightning in the area.

New kickoff time set for TCU-Kansas State

10:35 a.m. CT – Kickoff has been re-scheduled for 11:45 a.m. CT, as long as there no more lightning strikes in the area.

Kickoff officially delayed

10:15 a.m. CT – Kickoff is officially delayed due to lightning in the area.

Stadium gates closed to fans

10 a.m. CT – Kansas State Athletics announced at 9:53 a.m. CT that the gates into Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium would be closed to fans “until further notice” due to lightning.

Warm-ups rained out

9:30 a.m. CT – Rain and lightning kept players off the field during their typical warm-up time, according to the Star-Telegram’s Carlos Mendez.
