TCU fans stunned by Chris Del Conte’s departure but thankful for AD’s legacy

In a shocking turn of events, it was announced on Saturday that TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte was hired away by Big 12-rival Texas to assume the same role for the Longhorns.

Del Conte had been at TCU since 2009 and oversaw the Horned Frogs’ admission into the Big 12 Conference — a shining moment in the history of the school’s athletic program.

TCU fans were stunned by the sudden news on Saturday, but expressed gratitude for all the Horned Frogs accomplished on the playing field during Del Conte’s tenure in Fort Worth.

TCU athletics had no shortage of proud moments since Del Conte arrived in Fort Worth eight years ago. TCU football won a Rose Bowl and a Big 12 Championship, while baseball made five appearances in the College World Series.

And more recently, TCU men’s basketball won the 2017 NIT Title after hiring former Horned Frogs star Jamie Dixon as head coach prior to the 2016-17 season.

Del Conte was ranked the No. 2 athletic director in the nation by his colleagues throughout the country in August, only trailing Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione.
