Sweet 16 schedule 2018: Purdue-Texas Tech game time, TV channel
The Purdue-Texas Tech game is on Friday, March 23. The full time and TV information will be announced later Sunday night.
Date: Friday, March 23
TV channel: TBD
How they got to the Sweet 16
Purdue played No. 15 Cal State Fullerton in the first-round and won with ease, 74-48. The Boilermakers didn’t come away unscathed, though, as they appeared to lose their most impactful big man in Isaac Haas due to a fractured elbow.
Haas is now practicing with the team, but hasn’t been cleared to play.
In Purdue’s second-round matchup against No. 10 Butler, the Boilermakers had a much more difficult time. In the end, though, a Dakota Mathias 3-pointer in the final minute propelled the team to a 76-73 victory.
For Texas Tech, the Red Raiders were awarded a No. 3-seed after going 24-9 overall. Texas Tech faced No. 14 Stephen F. Austin and won, 70-60.
The Red Raiders’ second-round game also ended in a three-point differential, as the team played No. 6 Florida and won, 69-66.
Who is Texas Tech?
Texas Tech’s leading scorer is Keenan Evans. Evans, a 6-foot-3 senior guard, leads the team averaging 17.8 points per game.
Behind Evans in points are two freshmen in Jarrett Culver and Zhaire Smith at 11.5 and 11.3 points per contest, respectively. Culver and Smith also lead the team in rebounds at 4.9 per game, as no player averages at least 5.
Texas Tech had many impressive victories this season.
Some of the notable ones include a 6-point win over Nevada — who is also in the Sweet 16 — and a 12-point win over Kansas. Texas Tech finished with the second-best record in the Big 12.
The Red Raiders began the season on fire, winning 14 of their first 15 games. The only loss came to Seton Hall, who just lost to Kansas in the second-round by four points.
Following the early-season success, the team went 1-3 in its next four, but then won seven straight games. The see-sawing continued, though, as Texas Tech lost their next four games.
The Red Raiders closed their regular season with a victory and then lost in the second-round of the Big 12 Tournament to West Virginia.
