Tennessee will have a dramatic shift in offensive philosophy this upcoming season, and it will require a change in personnel.
Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt and offensive coordinator Tyson Helton haven’t shied away from talking about their vision. They want a bigger, stronger offense built around power-run schemes.
The Vols are hosting a prospect this weekend who loves to do exactly that. Class of 2019 tackle Triston Miller sounds exactly like the type of prospect this coaching staff will recruit from now on.
“I move people off the ball the best,” Miller told SEC Country. “I love to run block and just get people off the line of scrimmage.”
The 6-foot-5, 265-pound prospect is currently a soft commitment to Wake Forest. He rushed into a commitment and has told the Demon Deacons he plans to open his recruitment and look around at other programs.
Tennessee is up there on the list of schools Miller wants to check out, along with Wake Forest and Georgia Tech. With the size he possesses, the list will surely grow.
Helton has been one of the main recruiters of Miller to this point. He sends him messages multiple times a week.
“Mostly motivational stuff,” Miller said. “Like ‘have a good day’ and ‘how’s your day going?’ Stuff like that.”
It’s still early in Miller’s recruitment, and he’s still figuring everything out. What he is looking for in a school is pretty simple, at the moment, and will likely evolve as he gets deeper into the process.
“The place where I want to spend my next four years after my senior season,” Miller said. “A place where I can get a good education and play some really good football.”
The Charlotte, N.C., native isn’t worried about distance from home, which opens up the number of schools he’ll look at this next season.
Miller plans to attend the Adidas 3-stripe camp and Nike Regional Opening camp this summer. He could grab a lot of attention with a strong performance at either camp.
This will be a recruitment to watch moving forward. Tennessee is clearly interested in pursuing the burly lineman. He’s exactly the kind of player the staff is looking for moving forward.
