GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The nation’s No. 1-ranked running back, Trey Sanders, made a surprise visit to Florida on Saturday.
The 5-star recruit from IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) watched the Gators’ spring practice and met with the new coaching staff for the first time.
“It was really good,” Sanders said of his trip.”This is my third time coming to Florida. I like the vibe today. It’s a lot different than the last time I came. Coach [Dan] Mullen and that staff have a different plan and I like it.”
Sanders spent majority of his time around Florida running backs coach Greg Knox and his position group. Knox, who was hired two months ago, recently took over as the primary recruiter for Sanders.
“Coach Knox is a pretty good dude,” he said. “I liked the way he was working with the running backs. He had good drills and I like how he coaches.”
Sanders is the No. 6 overall recruit in the country, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He plans to return to Florida with his mother in tow.
“I’ll come back some time soon. I’m going to bring my mom for a visit,” Sanders said. “She loves Florida. She grew up a Gator fan and she likes them a lot”
The 6-foot, 216-pound prospect is in no rush to make a decision after de-committing from Alabama on Jan. 1. He also holds offers from schools such as Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State and Oklahoma.
“I don’t have any leaders or anything,” Sanders said. “I’m taking my time with my recruitment.”
