4-star QB Justin Rogers sets official visit to LSU

Two of Justin Rogers‘ official visit plans have been made.

Rogers, Louisiana’s top-ranked quarterback prospect in the Class of 2018, will officially visit LSU on Nov. 25 for the Texas A&M game. He is reserving his final official stop for TCU on Dec. 16.

An early graduate, Rogers will return to Fort Worth, Texas on the final weekend before he signs his letter of intent during the early signing period.

Rogers, who committed to TCU on May 31, remains in contact with the LSU coaching staff. Area recruiter Steve Ensminger and coach Ed Orgeron made contact with the 4-star quarterback prior to his torn ACL and remained in his ear after the injury. That has helped the Tigers set up an official visit with the state’s top quarterback.

Rogers will attend LSU’s regular-season finale against Texas A&M alongside 5-star wide receiver and teammate Terrace Marshall Jr. For Marshall, it will be his final of five official visits before committing on Dec. 22 and also signing and graduating early.

Rogers is planning to utilize all five of his official visits, with North Carolina a team that will also get an opportunity to host him this fall.

LSU currently does not hold a commitment from a quarterback in its 2018 recruiting class, but there is a glaring need at the position with Danny Etling set to graduate after the 2017 season and an uncertain future ahead of junior Justin McMillan. Myles Brennan and Lowell Narcisse are expected to compete for the starting job next spring.

Rogers has long been the Tigers’ top 2018 quarterback target and that has remained the case even after he gave a verbal commitment to TCU in May. Like Rogers, the team’s other targets Justin Fields (UGA) and Jarren Williams (Kentucky) are committed elsewhere. However, Rogers is the most likely candidate to fall into LSU’s class of the three — pending how the team fares the rest of the season and what he is told on his official visit.

Rogers tore his ACL at the start of September and underwent surgery on Sept. 11. While a timeline is uncertain, he is already ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation. There’s a strong possibility that the All-American is competing in fall camp next summer.
