The Baylor Bears won the services of a major recruit as Byron Hanspard II committed to play in Waco on Monday night.

Hanspard, a 4-star defensive back from DeSoto, Tex., announced his commitment via Twitter.

He was originally committed to Arkansas before reopening up his recruitment on November 29. He plays wide receiver and cornerback at DeSoto and is officially listed as an athlete, but all indications point to him playing mostly on the defensive side of the ball.

Hanspard is the No. 12 athlete in the Class of 2018 according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He is the son of former Texas Tech running back Byron Hanspard.

With his commitment to Baylor, Hanspard is now the top-ranked recruit in the Bears’ Class of 2018.
