Stanford advances in NIT after first round win over BYU

Despite nearly coughing up a 14-point lead, the Stanford Cardinal won its sixth-straight NIT game with an 86-83 win over BYU in the first round.

Five players for Stanford reached double figures, led by Reid Travis’ 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting.

Travis also had a double-double with 14 rebounds. Michael Humphrey had 11 points and 14 rebounds for his own double-double.

BYU was paced on the scoresheet by Elijah Bryant, who had a game-high 28 points.

The Cougars got a decent look at the end of the game to force overtime, but Stanford held on.

Stanford now plays Oklahoma State of the Big 12 in the NIT’s Sweet 16. That game will be in Stillwater, Okla.
