Sports Illustrated writers give LSU no chance against No. 10 Auburn in Death Valley

This is the year Auburn reverses its fortunes in the house of horrors known as Death Valley, according to Sports Illustrated, which gives LSU no chance to win at home this Saturday.

Auburn hasn’t won in Tiger Stadium since 1999, having lost eight straight in the venue, but is listed as a 7-point favorite for the matchup against LSU. Only two of those eight matchups were decided by fewer than 13 points.

Still, all seven Sports Illustrated writers chose Auburn over LSU. Here’s what one writer, Bruce Feldman, had to say about the matchup:

“LSU got a much-needed win on the road last week, edging out Florida. That provided a nice jolt of confidence for a young team that had to play four freshmen O-linemen. The Tigers are stronger up front on defense than they’ve been at any point this season with Frank Herron returning and Arden Key seeming to have played his way into shape, but I still think LSU is too shorthanded in the passing game with Danny Etling to be able to knock off a talented Auburn team that is surging now that Jarrett Stidham has settled in, throwing five TDs and no picks in his last three games.”

LSU is coming off a 17-16 win over Florida in The Swamp after a tumultuous 3-2 start to the season that featured a 30-point loss to Mississippi State and a shocking home defeat at the hands of Troy.

That doesn’t help the mystique of Tiger Stadium entering this Saturday’s matchup, which kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
