Sporting News projects Big 12 to notch winning record in bowl season

Bowl season is upon us and the Big 12 is well represented.

In fact, with eight of its 10 teams headed for one final game, the Big 12 is set to send a higher percentage of its league to a bowl berth, with Kansas and Baylor as the lone exceptions.

Now, on the heels of such a high level of collective success, can the Big 12 continue its winning ways throughout the bowl season? According to Sporting News, that answer is a resounding yes, as the outlet projected the Big 12 to notch a 5-3 record throughout the next month.

Birmingham Bowl — USF (-2.5) vs Texas Tech
South Florida wins 48-45 and covers the spread
“Take the over here. Nic Shimonek (3,547 yards, 30 touchdowns) will throw all over the place for the Red Raiders, but Quinton Flowers can will give Charlie Strong and the Bulls a victory in Birmingham.”

Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl — Utah (-4) vs West Virginia
Utah wins 28-20 and covers the spread
“West Virginia isn’t the same offense without star quarterback Will Grier (hand), and Utah will take advantage. The Utes have won 13 of their last 14 bowl appearances and are 10-1 under Kyle Whittingham.”

Cactus Bowl — UCLA vs Kansas State (-2.5)
Kansas State wins 30-27 and covers the spread

Academy Sports and Outdoors Texas Bowl — Texas vs. Missouri (-1)
Missouri wins 44-34 and covers the spread
“There’s history dating back to the Big 12, and Missouri’s Drew Lock led the nation with 43 touchdown passes last season, breaking an SEC record in the process. The Longhorns, meanwhile, try to complete a winning season under first-year coach Tom Herman. It’s a coin flip.”

Camping World Bowl — Virginia Tech vs. Oklahoma State (-6.5)
Oklahoma State wins 31-28 but fails to cover the spread

Valero Alamo Bowl — Stanford vs. TCU (-2.5)
TCU wins 31-24 and covers the spread

AutoZone Liberty Bowl — Iowa State vs. Memphis (-3.5)
Iowa State wins 44-41 in an UPSET

Rose Bowl – No. 2 Oklahoma vs. No. 3 Georgia (-1.5)
Oklahoma wins 31-28 in an UPSET

If the aforementioned projections prove true, six of the Big 12’s 10 teams will conclude the 2017 season with a winning record, with Texas and Texas Tech falling short at 6-7.
