Texas Tech has unquestionably outperformed expectations this season. Of course, how far the Red Raiders go is yet to be determined.
Although Sporting News’ Bill Bender doesn’t consider Texas Tech among the one-loss teams capable of making a run to the College Football Playoff, he wrote he could see the Red Raiders crashing the conference party and making it into the Big 12 title game.
“We could picture the Red Raiders in the Big 12 championship game. Maybe,” Bender wrote. “… They have an offense patented for all those high-powered offensive games the conference presents.”
Still, Texas Tech must manage to win those contests. Upcoming road matchups with West Virginia and Oklahoma will present clear challenges, while sandwiched between is a home game against Iowa State, which, if you ask the Sooners, is no easy task either.
The schedule remains difficult beyond that, which is true for all Big 12 teams. The conference’s parity might be enough for the Red Raiders to sneak into the title game, and from there, anything can happen.
