Louisville defensive end commitment Jarrett Jackson is scheduled to take an official visit to South Carolina the weekend of the Florida game (Nov. 11).

Defensive line coach Lance Thompson serves as the Gamecocks’ primary recruiter, but Muschamp is also involved with the No. 40 strongside defensive end in the Class of 2018.

“I know Coach Thompson is great at getting defensive linemen to the next level,” Jackson said. “Coach Muschamp is a great defensive coach and they’ve been successful in recent years.”

This fall, neither coach has been by to see him at Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) High School. Jackson took an unofficial visit to Louisville for the Clemson game. He also attended the Alabama-Florida State game in Atlanta as a Seminoles recruiting guest.

Jackson is also scheduled to take official visits to Pittsburgh (Dec. 2) and Louisville (Dec. 9). The 6-foot-4.5, 257-pound prospect graduates in December.

Also on the table

South Carolina also is in pursuit of Tennessee commitment Dorian Gerald, a 3-star junior college defensive end from College of the Canyons in California. The West Florence (S.C.) High School product is scheduled to take his official visit to South Carolina the weekend after Jackson is back on campus.

The Gamecocks have defensive end commitments from two 2018 players: 3-star prospect Kingsley Enagbare (Atlanta) and 3-star recruit Tyreek Johnson, who originally signed in February of this year but took a grayshirt.

Back in 2018

Dante Sawyer, who’s second among South Carolina defenders this season with 3 sacks, is the only senior defensive end on the 2017 roster. Keir Thomas, Aaron Sterling and Shameik Blackshear are all set to return next season.

The two commitments, both of whom could end up seeing work at tackle during their time in Columbia, may launch their careers in January.
