South Carolina recruiting: Josh Vann returns; Gamecocks offer 2020 LB

South Carolina recruiting

Whenever Will Muschamp lands a commitment, the South Carolina coach drops a #SpursUp on Twitter. Come to SEC Country for the latest news, notes and observations in South Carolina recruiting.

Back to South Carolina

Four-star wide receiver Josh Vann doesn’t really have a recruiting pitch for 4-star offensive tackle Dylan Wonnum, his classmate at Tucker (Ga.) High School.

“I haven’t done much. I don’t try to put myself too much in his recruiting process, because I know it’s his decision, even though I would love if he came,” Vann said.

South Carolina landed a commitment from Vann (5-foot-11, 175 pounds) in August, after he opened his senior season with a big-time performance at the old Turner Field in Atlanta.

Wonnum (6-5, 279) has an offer sheet that also includes Auburn and LSU, but the 247Sports Crystal Ball believes he’ll join Vann and his older brother, D.J. Wonnum, on the South Carolina roster.

The two 2018 prospects were in Columbia last weekend for the win against Arkansas.

“It went good. What stood out was the game. Had a great time at the game,” Vann said.

Muschamp and co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon caught up with Vann, who also attended the Kentucky game.

“[They were] just glad I was able to make it up there,” Vann said.

Earlier this season, he took an official visit to Kansas State, but it appears that he won’t visit any other schools.

Another Atlanta-area offer

During his visit to South Carolina on Saturday, 2020 linebacker Isaiah Ratcliff added an offer from the Gamecocks when Muschamp pulled him aside, following an office sit-down with the group from Cedar Grove High School [Ellenwood, Ga.]: 2019 defensive tackle Rashad Cheney Jr., 2019 wide receiver Jadon Haselwood and 2019 defensive end Tworn Seals.

“[Muschamp] said, ‘We would love to have you here. You have an offer from the University of South Carolina,’” Ratcliff said.

Ratcliff added, “It meant a lot, just for a D-1 school to be interested in me.”

Cheney and Haselwood, both of whom are committed to Georgia, visited Williams-Brice Stadium in April for the spring game. The 48-22 win over Arkansas was Ratcliff’s first trip to South Carolina.

“I loved the game and I loved the atmosphere. It was loud. I liked the fans and how everything operated,” Ratcliff said

Florida Atlantic, Michigan and Tennessee have offered the 6-1, 205-pound prospect.
