June official visit
Savion Jackson is just a few spots short of 5-star billing on the 247Sports composite. Listed as the No. 34 overall prospect in the Class of 2019, Jackson is six spots behind the last 5-star player in the class.
South Carolina is in strong position for Jackson, a defensive end from Clayton (N.C.) High School. The No. 3 strongside defensive end in the country is scheduled to take an official visit to see the Gamecocks for the first weekend in June.
Jackson (6-2, 245) has offers from Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, N.C. State and Virginia Tech, among others. South Carolina was his first offer.
The Gamecocks are also set to host 4-star tackle Michael Tarquin (Belleview, Fla.) for an official visit in April.
Offered, ready to visit
Four-star wide receiver Michael Wyman landed an offer from South Carolina earlier this month. The 2020 prospect from Dudley High School (Greensboro, N.C.) plans to visit the Gamecocks on March 10.
That’s a Saturday and potentially could end up being another big-time recruiting event. Several prospects have plans to see South Carolina in March, including 2019 Walhalla (S.C) High School kicker Patrick Nations, though he hasn’t been offered.
Coming off his trip to South Carolina in January, 4-star defensive end Curtis Fann Jr. sounded like a guy who might be ready to hop on board with Muschamp & Co. But he tweeted over the weekend that his recruitment is “ wide open” before deleting the post.
Since that stop in Columbia, Fann has visited Auburn and landed an offer from Notre Dame. Tennessee, apparently, is applying some pressure now, too.
South Carolina and Auburn were previously listed as favorites, along with Clemson and Florida.
Another hoops target
According to an interview with of SportsTalkSC’s Phil Kornblut, South Carolina basketball coach Frank Martin is expected to check out 2018 shooting guard T.J. Moss at some point this week.
Moss, a 3-star prospect from Findley Prep (Henderson, Nev.), is ranked as the No. 40 shooting guard in the country. Alabama, Memphis, Minnesota, Texas A&M and Oregon State have offered.
The Gamecocks haven’t, at least not yet.
“I like South Carolina,” Terrence Moss Sr. said. “We’re just waiting on Frank to show up. I’ve been talking to [assistant coach] Chuck [Martin] and they want Frank to see him. They called his coach and had a really good conversation and said T.J. is a priority.”
