South Carolina players fire back at Tennessee WR Tyler Byrd

South Carolina

Several South Carolina football players came to the defense of cornerback Rashad Fenton, who was the target of a Thursday morning tweet by Tennessee wide receiver Tyler Byrd.

Byrd, a sophomore with 2 catches for 21 yards over four games this season, questioned the Gamecocks annexation of Fenton Island.

Senior defensive back Chris Lammons reminded Byrd of last season’s game, during which he didn’t have a catch.

Junior wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who’s out for Saturday’s game against Tennessee, reminded Byrd that he hasn’t produced much this season.

Senior safety D.J. Smith appears to be saving his response for the field on Saturday.

South Carolina-Tennessee kicks off at noon Saturday on ESPN.
