Another #SpursUp

South Carolina welcomed its third pledge for the 2019 cycle on Monday night when 3-star offensive tackle Jaylen Nichols committed to the program .

“They were super happy; they said I made a great choice and they have big plans for the future,” Nichols told SEC Country.

The Charlotte, N.C., native is rated as the No. 43 defensive tackle in the Class of 2019, according to the 247Sports composite. He also has an offer from Indiana.

‘They’ve been recruiting me hard’

Four-star DT Rick Sandidge is one of several South Carolina targets practicing for the Shrine Bowl this week.

The Gamecocks have made the Concord (N.C.) High School standout one of their top remaining priorities for the 2018 class.

“They’ve been recruiting me hard and I’ve been there a lot of times,” Sandidge said of the Gamecocks. “That helps out a lot. I just have a really good time when I go there.”

Sandidge is ranked as the No. 130 prospect overall for 2018 by the 247Sports composite.

A trailblazer

Five-star defensive end KJ Henry is another priority prospect for South Carolina playing in the Shrine Bowl .

According to Henry, South Carolina coach Will Muschamp’s pitch is simple: be a trailblazer.

“Just like Jadeveon Clowney and guys like that,” Henry said. “The fact that they made progress over the last couple of years, which you can see in their record.”

The Clemmons, N.C., native will reveal his college decision on Dec. 20. He’s also considering Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Virginia Tech.

State’s top athlete has options

Will 3-star athlete Bryce Thompson  sign on Dec. 20 — and if yes, where will he be headed?

According to SEC Country’s Hale McGranahan, the Dutch Fork High School (Irmo, S.C.) standout is still considering South Carolina and Virginia Tech , with Marshall and Temple also in the mix.

Thompson is rated as the No. 7 overall prospect in South Carolina by 247Sports.

Forecast for thunder and lightning

South Carolina’s two running back commits for 2018, Deshaun Fenwick and Lavonte Valentine, will enroll in January .

Valentine, the thunder to Fenwick’s lightning, seems to be recovering quickly from his torn ACL — already with “full range of motion,” according to the 3-star running back.

Fenwick and Valentine are No. 13 and No. 15, respectively, in 247Sports’ rankings of all-purpose backs for 2018.

Senior Bowl bound

South Carolina linebacker Skai Moore will play in the Senior Bowl on Jan. 27 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala.

The redshirt senior made 88 tackles and 3 interceptions this season. He’s currently No. 7 all time at South Carolina with 348 tackles.

To the top

SEC Network unveiled its pre-bowl power rankings on Tuesday, with the Gamecocks coming in at No. 6.

South Carolina can win 9 games for only the seventh time in program history with a victory over Michigan in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1.

Moving on up

The South Carolina women’s basketball team climbed one spot to No. 4 in the latest AP Top 25.

The Gamecocks currently sit at 9-1. The team has been on a break for finals since a 69-43 win over College of Charleston on Dec. 5.

South Carolina returns to the court on Dec. 17 to host Savannah State at Colonial Life Arena.
