The South Carolina football team’s 2018 recruiting class has several defensive prospects committed, a few of whom will enroll next month.
With less than a week before the first signing period of the 2018 cycle, the Gamecocks are in the mix for several prospects, including 4-star linebacker Channing Tindall and 4-star defensive tackle Rick Sandidge.
However, neither prospect is expected to sign in December, though Tindall plans to announce a commitment before the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Defensive end (4)
3-star Kingsley Enagbare (Atlanta), 3-star Tyreek Johnson (Sumter, S.C.), 3-star Jesus Gibbs (Dumfries, Va.) and 3-star Jarrett Jackson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.)
Enagbare will sign next week and enroll in January. The same goes for Johnson, who originally signed with the 2017 class.
Gibbs, who’s been committed as an offensive lineman, recently got the go-ahead to change his position to defensive end.
Jackson, a 3-star prospect, remains committed to Louisville, but South Carolina is in position to make a mid-December flip.
Defensive tackle (2)
3-star Jabari Ellis (Georgia Military College) and 4-star Rick Sandidge (Concord, N.C.)
Ellis will sign with the Gamecocks next week but won’t be able to enroll until the summer, after he graduates from GMC.
Sandidge will wait to announce his decision on National Signing Day in February.
3-star Ernest Jones IV (Waycross, Ga.) and 3-star Rosendo Louis (Deerfield Beach, Fla.)
Jones will sign next week and enroll in January.
Louis, who remains committed to Florida State, is scheduled to take an official visit to South Carolina this weekend, before signing next week.
4-star Marlon Character Jr. (Northwest Mississippi C.C.), 4-star Jaycee Horn (Alpharetta, Ga.), 3-star Bryce Thompson (Irmo, S.C.) and 3-star Israel Mukuamu (Bossier City, La.)
Of these four prospects, three are committed: Character, Thompson and Mukuamu.
The only one who’s confirmed to be signing next week is Mukuamu. The former Florida State commit will enroll in January.
Thompson will sign in February and Character has yet to reveal his plans.
Horn’s status is also up in the air, but he took an official visit to South Carolina last weekend.
3-star recruit Jonathan Gipson (Hoschton, Ga.) and 3-star prospect R.J. Roderick (Summerville, S.C.)
Roderick and Gipson will both sign next week, though Roderick is the only one of the two set to enroll in January.
