Signee 101: Get to know 3-star OT Tanner Antonutti

Tennessee never had to doubt that  Tanner Antonutti was going to sign with the Vols. Coach Jeremy Pruitt honored his scholarship offer, and that would have been the only thing that could have kept Antonutti off Rocky Top.

Here’s what you need to know about Tanner Antonutti:

  • Antonutti grew up a Tennessee fan. The Nashville native told SEC Country in the middle of the Vols’ tough 2017 season that it didn’t bother him. He said a coaching change wouldn’t shake his faith, either. He had been a fan long before coach Butch Jones was there, and he would be one long after.
  • Antonutti played offensive tackle and tight end throughout high school at Ensworth, but made the permanent switch to offensive tackle this season. Injuries forced him back into the tight end spot for the last two games of the season, though.
  • Antonutti has great athleticism for the offensive tackle position, which is his best trait on the line. Defensive ends have a tough time getting around him because he can just stay in front. By Antonutti’s count, he gave up only two or three sacks this season.
  • His weakness is the lack of experience at the position. Antonutti will be facing defensive ends in the SEC who have worked at the position for 5-to-10 years. It will be a sharp learning curve, but Antonutti is ready to put in the work.
  • Another weakness is his size. At 6-foot-5, Antonutti has the frame to pack on more size, but at 260 pounds he would be the smallest lineman on the team. He has not really been able to put aside time to get bigger, though. A redshirt season would go a long way in helping Antonutti bulk up.
