Notre Dame has officially signed the top receiver in its 2018 recruiting class. Kevin Austin, a 4-star receiver from North Broward Prep and the Irish’s highest-ranked offensive prospect, signed his National Letter of Intent Wednesday morning.
Austin became Notre Dame’s 16th commit of the 2018 class when he pledged his services to the Irish on August 11. Austin chose Notre Dame over Clemson, Miami and Tennessee, among other suitors. His commitment immediately moved Notre Dame’s class to No. 8 in 247sports.com’s team recruiting rankings.

How Kevin Austin fits at Notre Dame
Notre Dame’s greatest weakness this season has been its passing game. While Austin may not be able to come in and awaken the Irish air attack right away, he undoubtedly has the ability to contribute in the long run. Austin is a tall receiver who should be able to provide a downfield threat that can loosen up opposing defenses and make room for the Irish’s vaunted rushing attack. He should also compliment Notre Dame’s strong tight end core as a red zone option.
