Signee 101: Get to know 3-star Kentucky QB Terry Wilson

With Stephen Johnson graduating and former top quarterback target Jarren Williams de-committing from Kentucky, the Wildcats had a small window to find a quarterback in the 2018 class.

Terry Wilson became the guy. The Oklahoma City native and former Oregon quarterback spent this season at Garden City Community College in Kansas, and he signed with the Wildcats on Wednesday.

Here’s all you need to know about one of the top JUCO quarterback prospects in the 2018 class:

3-star quarterback Terry Wilson

247Sports composite ranking: Wilson is the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the junior college ranks. He’s ranked 34th among all junior college prospects.

Hometown: Oklahoma City

School: Garden City Community College (Garden City, Kan.)

Height: 6-foot-3

Weight: 195 pounds

Offers: Kentucky, Florida, Ole Miss, Baylor, Indiana

Commitment: Dec. 10

Early enrollee: Yes

JUCO stats: Wilson played in 11 games at Garden City Community College. He threw for 2,113 yards with 26 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions. Wilson completed 57.6 percent of his passes.

He averaged 47 rushing yards per game. Wilson had 5 rushing touchdowns and fumbled four times.

Where he fits at Kentucky: Wilson will have a chance to compete for the starting quarterback job next season alongside likely contenders Drew Barker and Gunnar Hoak. Barker, a former starter who’s played sparingly the last two seasons, should be viewed as the favorite for the job. But Wilson’s experience and accolades can’t be ignored.

He was a 4-star quarterback coming out of high school. Wilson committed to Nebraska and flipped to Oregon, where he spent one redshirt season. Wilson wasn’t in line for playing time at Oregon, thus leading to his junior college transfer. Wilson’s road to Lexington has been full of detours, but he brings a wealth of experience to Kentucky’s quarterback room.

Expect him to get an honest shot at competing for the job.
