Signee 101: Get to know 4-star OT Badara Traore

Badara Traore is the highest-rated offensive prospect embedded in LSU’s 2018 recruiting class and has long been courted by this coaching staff. The 4-star junior college offensive tackle did not make his first visit to LSU until Thanksgiving weekend but wound up giving his commitment just a few days later.

Traore is one of two junior college offensive linemen in the Tigers’ class, something that coach Ed Orgeron spoke about at length for much of the fall, particularly after the team lost the battle in the trenches on the road at Mississippi State in September. Orgeron was indirectly speaking of Traore. He is fully expected to sign during the early signing period.

  • Traore has long mentioned LSU as the team recruiting him the hardest. Offensive line coach Jeff Grimes spearheaded his recruitment, which worked to LSU’s advantage because Traore was impressed with Grimes’ track record of churning out NFL offensive linemen in recent years.
  • Grimes visited Traore at ASA College in New York a week after his official visit. Orgeron did the same the following week, which ultimately led to Traore’s commitment on Dec. 7.
  • Traore made only three official visits — to Auburn in the summertime, Texas in October and LSU, last, in November.

At 6-foot-8 and 315 pounds, Traore is already one of the biggest lineman on LSU’s roster and should be in the mix to compete for a starting job somewhere on the Tigers’ line as early as this spring. LSU will lose K.J. Malone and could say goodbye to draft-eligible starters such as Will Clapp (center) and Toby Weathersby (right tackle). Freshman Saahdiq Charles started half the season at left tackle.
