Signee 101: Get to know 3-star Auburn athlete Josh Marsh

Josh Marsh grew up an Auburn fan, and jumped on the opportunity to commit when given the chance. On Wednesday morning, he made if official and signed with the Tigers.

The 3-star defensive athlete from Decatur, Ala., didn’t have the most publicized recruitment. Marsh camped with Auburn as a relative unknown this summer. He earned an offer and committed all in the same day. Marsh has the ability to play safety and linebacker at the college level, but he’s likely to fit in as the former in Auburn’s defense.

Here’s all you need to know about the under-the-radar gem in the 2018 class:

3-star athlete Josh Marsh

247Sports composite ranking: No. 85 outside linebacker (projects as safety, though), No. 39 prospect in Alabama, No. 1,293 overall

Hometown: Decatur, Ala.

School: Decatur

Height: 6-foot-2

Weight: 215 pounds

Offers: 7, including Troy, Colorado State, Wake Forest, Memphis and Louisville.

Commitment: July 21, 2017

Early enrollee: Yes

Senior season stats: 62 rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdowns, 16 receiving yards, 155 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions, 3 pass deflections, 1 fumble recovery and 2 blocked field goals.

Where he fits at Auburn: When Marsh committed to Auburn, his fit into Kevin Steele’s defense remained a bit of an unknown. In some regards, that’s still a question mark for Marsh, who feels like he can fit in as an outside linebacker or a safety. Marsh is still listed as an outside linebacker by most of the national recruiting services, but he’s more likely to play safety in the Tigers defense. His straight-line speed blew coaches away when he camped at Auburn this summer. Marsh is a low-rated prospect who received virtually zero exposure as a recruit, so his expectations and upside haven’t truly been set yet. As an early enrollee, Marsh likely will find his niche early on this spring.
