Xavier Williams stuck with Alabama after Billy Napier left the Crimson Tide to become Arizona State’s offensive coordinator. He also announced his commitment to the Tide just days after his primary recruiter Mario Cristobal left for Oregon.
Williams has never wavered on his commitment to the Tide. He hasn’t visited any other program since choosing Alabama. On Wednesday, Williams signed with Alabama on the first day of the early signing period.
Here’s all you need to know about Williams:
4-star WR Xavier Williams
247Sports composite ranking: No. 26 wide receiver, No. 23 prospect in Florida and No. 136 overall
Hometown: Hollywood, Fla.
Weight: 190 pounds
Offers: 40, including Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan and Ohio State
Commitment: Jan. 17, 2017
Early enrollee: No
Where he fits at Alabama: The Tide are going to lose Robert Foster and Cam Sims after this season. Calvin Ridley will likely declare for the NFL draft after this season, too. Alabama’s freshman wide receivers — Henry Ruggs, Jerry Jeudy and DeVonta Smith — have all made plays this season. Those three will likely enter next season as the top pass-catching options. Not to mention, big-bodied receiver Tyrell Shavers, who redshirted this year. Williams will be a slot receiver in the Tide’s offense, but I don’t think he’ll make an impact during his freshman year.
