Minnesota’s 2018 recruiting class took a hit Thursday afternoon as 2018 cornerback Shamaur McDowell decommitted from the Golden Gophers.

McDowell, a 3-star recruit who plays for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., announced his decision on Twitter.

McDowell initially committed to P.J. Fleck’s program in June. McDowell has 18 offers, according to 247Sports, including ones from Iowa State, Purdue and N.C. State.

The Gophers still have 22 commits in their 2018 class without McDowell. Minnesota’s class ranked 35th in the country and eighth in the Big Ten before McDowell’s decommitment.
