GAINESVILLE, Fla. — More than a half dozen Florida commits plan to utilize the early signing period, including the top-rated recruit in the Gators’ 2018 class.
All eight early enrollees told SEC Country they will put pen to paper in December: quarterback Matt Corral, running backs Iverson Clement and Dameon Pierce, offensive lineman Curtis Dunlap, defensive end Taylor Upshaw and defensive backs Amari Burney, Randy Russell and Divaad Wilson.
Defensive back Deontai Williams, a JUCO prospect, will also sign in December.
“We look forward to early signing day,” Florida coach Jim McElwain said Monday. “You know, it will be interesting to see. Obviously, we’d like to sign all 25 in December.
“Certain guys are ready earlier, obviously the ones that we can get in here at mid-year. We’ve got a pretty good deal set up as far as that announcement.”
The signing period will last 72 hours, beginning Dec. 20 and running through Dec. 22. In addition the nine mid-year enrollees, McElwain and his staff will try to ink their other nine commits as well as any recruits they land between now and signing day.
“I just feel like it gives me that head start,” Corral told SEC Country when asked why he’s signing early. “It gives me the opportunity to play as a true freshman, which I want to do.”
